Dubai Livin is a guide to living, renting and buying property in Dubai, written by someone who lives here. It’s for expats who are moving to the city, choosing a neighbourhood, signing a first tenancy contract or thinking about buying a home.
Meet the founder: Stephen Njenga
I’m Stephen Njenga, and I started Dubai Livin. I’ve lived in Dubai since 2020, and over that time I’ve learned how the city works for residents: how renting and Ejari registration work, what freehold and off-plan buying involve, how the communities differ, and what day-to-day living really costs.
I write and edit the guides on this site myself. When a guide covers rules, fees or figures, I check them against official sources such as the Dubai Land Department (DLD), RERA, the Central Bank of the UAE and the UAE government portal before publishing, and I update guides when those rules change.
I’m not a licensed broker, lawyer or financial adviser, so nothing on Dubai Livin is personalised legal, financial or brokerage advice. For big decisions, check with a RERA-registered broker, a bank or a qualified professional.
What we cover
- Dubai real estate: buying property, freehold areas, off-plan purchases, mortgages and renting. Start with our Dubai real estate guide.
- Communities: what different neighbourhoods are like to live in, and who they suit.
- Moving to Dubai: visas, setting up, and the first weeks in the city.
- Money and daily life: cost of living, banking, insurance and everyday practicalities.
- Things to do: the places and events worth your time as a resident.
How we work
Every guide on Dubai Livin is written and reviewed by a person before it goes live. We don’t auto-publish content. Guides that touch on money, property or legal matters are checked against primary sources, and we note when key figures were last verified. You can read the full details in our editorial policy.
Some pages contain affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you sign up or buy through them, at no extra cost to you. This never decides what we recommend.
